Matt:Are you thinking or you drinking? So we have some special drops to share with you today from a man who, as far as I'm concerned, is a bit of a legend, and that leads into our theme for this trivia, which will be run by Chris. Chris, we're doing video game trivia today and our special sound drops we have are from the legendary Jeff Stitzer, who is the voice of God. Halo multiplayer announcer Ooh hell yeah. Yeah, I'm very excited.
Matt:So let's go around the table. We'll introduce ourselves and then we're going to get to some trivia which I will be participating in, hopefully not sucking. So let's go this way around the table. Hi everybody. It's Rob, I'm Chris. I'm Rob, I'm Chris, I'm Josh. I'm Andy. Andy's joining us virtually. And who are you? And I am your host, matt.
Rob:Oh man, I do love the games where you actually play instead of run, because then I get to beat you.
Matt:So before we dive into this, I do want to share the drink that I put together for today. Buckle up, yep. Rob dove right into the rim of this one and found it unpleasant you know, sometimes you're just not ready for the rim job, you know so I thought the rim was really nice.
Matt:So the drink here is a watermelon margarita, but this is made to be themed with garudo valley from the legend of zelda series, to have that desert yet spicy feel to it. I did a lot of research for this one and I was happy with how this one turned out, but it is rimmed with tahini, so it does have a nice spice to it.
Rob:It's not the tahini that's throwing me. What else is in this? Because there's something in it that is throwing me. Well, it's theoretically smoking. Yes, it's a mezcalita.
Josh:It's not really a margarita, so this is a mezcal-based drink, not traditional tequila.
Matt:Yeah.
Rob:So it's the mezcal, the smokiness that's throwing me off of the drink, not the.
Matt:Tahin, not the smokiness that's throwing me off of the drink. Not the tahin, not the tahin. So I picked this because ocarina of time is my favorite single player game. If I have to split things down, my favorite multiplayer game is by far and away the halo series. Pick one, uh of them. I absolutely love that series. But odst, I love odst oh, phenomenal game shocking. Oh my god, I was not a fan. Oh, nathan Fillion voices one of the dropshippers.
Matt:I'm talking about multiplayer only. It does not have as much to it as the other Halo games do, that's for sure. But I want to ask that question of all of you favorite single player, favorite multiplayer Chris, if you feel the need to break this down by decade system, whatever you need to do over there, I mean if you feel the need to break this down by decade system whatever you need to do over there.
Chris:I mean, if, if you go? Uh, my, my favorite game of all time is legend of zelda, majora's mask. A close second is chrono trigger, so they're almost equal in my eyes. I've played both of those games I'm not even exaggerating probably 50 times a piece. Uh, and then uh, multiplayer is really difficult for me, but I have to land on splinter cell chaos theory.
Chris:Uh, it's kind of a little known multiplayer game the splinter cells game series is huge, and the third in the series had a multiplayer that I played an obsessive amount in late high school, early college, I mean. Close second is obviously the Call of Duty series. I was a big Call of Duty player for years as well. Not so much anymore. I can't stand them anymore. The culture of that game is abysmal. But that's yeah. That's where I'm landing.
Josh:When you say multiplayer, do you mean online multiplayers, or it could be local Online couch. I mean, I would have to say my favorite of all time was mario kart double dash. As far as multiplayer games, go solid.
Josh:I could play that for hours with my friends. We would swap up the teams. We would always be playing with whoever I mean. It was just so much fun. As far as like the online games go, I spent a lot of time playing Call of Duty, so that would probably be my next one there. As far as single-player games go, man, I am more of a recent entrant into the whole series, but Assassin's Creed Valhalla I really liked that game. I love following stories.
Rob:Quality really playing that.
Josh:Yeah, I love following stories and world building. I really liked Far, far cry primal. I thought that was just a lot of fun and I'm currently in the middle of and I think this is probably probably the biggest game I've played. It takes the longest. I'm a playstation guy is assassin's creed odyssey, so I know I'm playing things out of order, but that game just has so much to it and I mean I feel like I'm I'm up in like the level, the 30s at this point, but there's so much that I haven't done yet that I still can, even when I'm done with the story, I can go back and do so much odyssey is the one in set in ancient greece.
Rob:Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Josh:So I mean the assassin's creed, the, that whole series. So far I've I've had a lot of fun playing through that and I know I'm late to the game, but it's a lot of fun.
Rob:I'll jump in next if you don't mind. Yeah, I'm not going to be able to land on one because I I think it's a little bit difficult. Growing up, I didn't play a ton of single-player games, like I wasn't, uh super into gaming individually. I was more into like gaming with friends. Um, so if I'm, if I'm going to start with team multiplayer type games you know, halo obviously carried me through college.
Matt:Uh, I played with three of the people sitting at this table, um, sometimes when we were supposed to be going to college, that yeah that's fair, um, but.
Rob:But also I'll throw out a couple other like honorable mentions. Uh, marvel, ultimate alliance I loved that game. Played that a lot with some friends from college. Played through it multiple times because the replayability with like doing a different character as your main, was always fun. But also my classic multiplayer game that I loved Turtles in Time oh, such a good game. Turtles in Time. As far as single player, I'll go more recent. Either the Arkham series, Batman Arkham series I didn't even think of those.
Chris:Very good. Hundreds of hours of gameplay in that.
Rob:Or the Sony Spider-Man series has been equally as impeccable, both graphically, storyline and just playability.
Chris:I got to dust that off. I played only like maybe an hour of I don't know which one, one of the Spider-Mans.
Rob:The first one's very good. The second one is unbelievable as well.
Josh:I would take the Arkham. Personally, I'd take the Arkham series over the Spider-Man games, but they are both a lot of fun.
Matt:I want to let Andy answer, but I have this really obscure return of the jedi on, I believe, on nes yeah yeah, and it was the first time that I had played that game and I just it was damn near impossible, but it was a lot of fun yeah, we got to that point where the millennium falcon has to drive through the middle of the death star.
Matt:Yep, and it was infuriatingly difficult on that style of controller that was second only in my mind to the lion king game for sega genesis. If you ever played that game was so good. The stampede where, if you have four, hearts.
Chris:All you have to do is go all the way to the left of the screen and, although you'll get hit, once you'll only get hit once so you'll make it through classic andy you're up.
Andy:All right, so I I'm a little bit more of a fan of the goofy games, so we'll start with my favorite all-time game. Is diablo 2? Such a good game, god, I played so much of that game. Favorite multiplayer game josh, I'm with you, except mine's. Mario kart 64 okay I man similar. Just such great memories of being at parties and you know, whoever comes in last has to give up their controller and just rotating through.
Josh:Yeah, for sure.
Andy:But I tend now to I stick to games that I can put down quickly or games that help me be active. So I am still a very avid Pokemon Go player. If any of the listeners want to be a Pokefriend, I'm down for that.
Matt:When he says avid Andy is underselling this greatly. Really, when you have Pokedexes of shiny and lucky that you're actively trying to fill it, how many of the shiny Dexes do you have done now?
Andy:So I have the first three generations of Pokemon shiny. Dexes do you have done now? So I have the first three generations of pokemon shiny dex is complete. That includes legendaries and mythicals and regionals. First three, first three generations complete, working on the fourth how many years? How many years? And that's the funny thing is, we didn't play from the start. Pokemon go started in 2016. I think Rachel and I started playing in 2018, but yeah, and have you been?
Josh:playing solid from 2018 to now. Yeah.
Andy:Wow, I would say I have probably, maybe since 2018, two, maybe three days when I haven't at least caught a Pokemon. Holy cow.
Josh:That is crazy investment, but you know what it's.
Andy:One of those things that, like during the pandemic shutdown, like to have that daily goal to go outside and spin that poke. Stop down the street from me and go for that walk to catch some like that helped me stay sane yes, same with siobhan and I.
Chris:You know, siobhan and I both got into well, I got into pokemon go at the time and siobhan got into the harry potter game that no longer exists, but it was. It was pivotal to the pandemic. And getting out and active and not feeling guilty about it, like there was, there was a little bit of that like you could play that game socially distanced, and so you didn't feel bad being outside, even though you shouldn't have felt bad being outside. But, like you know, at the same time you didn't want to feel like you were pressing your company on other people and having to play a game together. So, and that, for I know, uh like andy and I are big board game, uh folks, and so the fact that we couldn't go over to each other's houses and play a board game together made it really really tough. So that was a good difference.
Josh:I never got into the Pokemon Go. In the pandemic I did a lot of solo disc golfing, which was my way of being outside. But I think, equally as niche and nerdy as this is, since two of us mentioned Mario Kart, are we doing a disservice by not mentioning Smash Brothers?
Chris:I was going to say there's a couple other classic multiplayer. Goldeneye is one of the other ones.
Josh:Perfect Dark, Perfect Dark, GoldenEye I spent a lot of time in high school playing Smash Brothers with people. Once we were done with the Mario Kart it was like, oh, now we're playing Smash Brothers and, just like Andy said, your last place, your controller's gone. You're going to someone else's coming in on this and just keeping a running kill count on the day.
Chris:And in college we did Mario Party as well. Oh yeah, I mean Mario.
Josh:Party is just. I still play that with my kids, and my wife, who doesn't play any video games at all, will play Mario Party with us.
Matt:I will totally pick on Jen, because she's the one that's like I don't like video games. She comes in to play one round, destroys everybody. It's like I'm done, she's out. She's done that for me in Halo, got to quit. When she's on top, she'll get five kills. When I go to the bathroom, she's like you were getting shot. And I'm like great, and I come back and my score's up by five. I'm like thank you. I'm like do you want to actually play? Grab a controller, let's go. No.
Chris:Alright, press start. Matt, do you have a magic thing? No, Okay. I mean you already did the. Are you thinking or are you drinking? So I mean we can just move on.
Matt:Think or drink. You know what we can do to start this off. Let's get a good one. Drinking spree yes.
Josh:Matt, I'm going to tell you I think this is the best cocktail you've made so far on the podcast. I know the other two don't like it.
Rob:I'm not saying that that was bad, it's just not my taste.
Josh:I mean, and Chris doesn't like agave spirits, so he would not like this, but I think this is very good.
Rob:Chris, are you a man who would light the mouth on fire? Maybe split that beer a little bit, yeah, yeah.
Josh:I got to say lights. The mouth on fire is such an over-exaggeration For those of you out there who are listening that have had a tahini rimmed margarita before and can handle any amount of spice. It lightly heats up the tongue.
Chris:I I wouldn't even it. It does light it up, though not in fire, but like it the salt really like sure, okay, like up the taste buds.
Rob:Yeah, all right, fair enough all right, it wasn't the spiciest thing I've ever had, it's. It's the smokiness that I was not a fan of.
Chris:All right, yeah, so this trivia is broken down into several categories, because I felt like I wanted not just like random trivia, sure. So here are the categories you guys can play along at home. Our first category will be old school, so these will be centered around games that were released before 2002. Then, of course, if we do old school, we've got to do next gen, so that category will be games that are released after 2002. Then, my personal favorite, the KB Mod keyboard mouse or die. I'm a big, big PC gamer. Oh boy, it's the argument of the ages. These games are exclusive to pc. Well, for the most part, then, we're gonna move on to hut, hut, hike, some sports games yes do you know your sports games?
Josh:I hope you do. There was a lot of head shaking during the pc one over here.
Chris:I think you're the most uh, most attuned to the pc game and then, uh, you know, we've all done it Up, up, down, down, left, right, left right. Ba select start Cheat codes.
Rob:The Konami code Okay.
Chris:That will not be a question. So suck it, matt. And then we are going to try a final category of video game music and sounds. So I will play the music from the game and you're going to try and tell me what game it and sounds. So I will play the music from the game and you're going to try and tell me what game it's from. I tried to pick like really really obvious things for licensing, matt, and I decided we'll play like just five seconds or less on the podcast, but we'll keep playing it for a couple more seconds for you guys to try and figure it out.
Rob:Yeah, so are we doing anything differently from a points perspective?
Chris:We are just going to do points, so you get a question right. You're going to get a point Earning points whoever has the most at the end. There are power-ups that we will have. I tried to make them a little bit video game themed. So we will have the mushroom, or make it a double. So if you use your mushroom, you'll earn two points instead of just one for guessing correct. Well, I'll use my mushroom. We know you do, rob. Thank you.
Matt:Oh, come on, I have like 40 sound effects I can use tonight.
Chris:Speaking of your mushroom Rob.
Matt:Yes.
Chris:We might want to use the ninja star on there for your bat mitzvah. Oh my God, this will slice the answers down and eliminate a wrong choice.

Matt:Don't listen to that one.
Chris:Moving on, we have the ghost block. So everybody who's played Mario Kart knows the ghost that will go and steal another player's item, but this one. If you use your ghost, you will steal another player's question and be able to answer it, so sort of like the put it on their tab, but like in reverse, whoa, I like it, it, and then I will have put it on your tab as the ice block. You can ice someone out by giving your question to somebody else. Remember, this is a little different than our normal trivia where we're counting down points or counting up points. So use your power-ups wisely. Yep, um, I didn't decide. So should we do one of each power-up? There's four of them.
Chris:I think that makes sense hey, andy, do you have a d8 near you?
Andy:do. I have a d8 near me, that's why I do, I didn't bring any dice in his pants, bag of dice in a captain morgan bag because I'm not high class enough to get a uh, traditional crown royal. Yeah, you, yeah, you got to get the.
Chris:Crown Royal. Yeah, so we'll say Rob's 1-5. You can be 2-6. Matt will be 3-7. And Josh will be 4-8. So roll for first player Five. That would be Rob, and we'll just go clockwise in that order. Then it's me.

Rob:I'm going to go with Super Mario Bros.

Chris:The very original Mario Bros you may not have actually played. It was the arcade-style one where you just fought between Mario and Luigi and tried to hit the enemies and it had the POW block. One where you just, uh, fought between mario and luigi and tried to hit the enemies and it had the power block at the bottom center. Damn, I had no idea all right, here we go.
Josh:Oh yeah, it was like the um when it was super mario brothers like a little multiplayer type style game it was like super mario brothers what was it? Two, when the other player was passing, you hit that button real quick. It would make you go into that little mini game and play them to see if you could take your turn, yeah, yeah, that's the game you're talking about, right?
Chris:yes, yeah, yeah, but it was originally an arcade cabinet game by itself. Yep, here we go. Question number two for andy. I'm ready that might get old, but for the first couple, I'm gonna do it. Uh, number five, here we go. The first couple, I'm going to do it. Number five, here we go. The first game in the Final Fantasy video games franchise was released? For what console? Andy:Well, it's definitely not N64, because I remember playing it before that. You know what I'm using the Star right off the bat.

Andy:I did not have a Sega, so I am going to say it was Nintendo.

Chris:In the third installment this is my favorite question in this category, by the way. Sorry, I should have said that before starting to read the question. That's all right. In the third installment of double dragon, the brothers names suffer an unfortunate typo that made it into the release of the game. Which of these typos is correct? Was it? Billy is misspelled as bimmy, jimmy is misspelled as Bimmy. Jimmy is misspelled as Bimmy. Billy is misspelled as Jilly, or Jimmy is misspelled as Jilly.
Matt:Oh crap.
Josh:I'm going to go, I don't know. This is a tough one. I feel like if I didn't know it off the top of my head, I'm not going to know it.
Chris:I'm going to say B whatever the second one was Jimmy is misspelled Bimmy. No, sorry, it is. Billy is misspelled Bimmy. Go look it up. It is absolutely hilarious that they put so little care into just cranking out another Double Dragon game that they didn't proofread it whatsoever.
