Andy, Emma, and Siobhan join Matt, embarking on a fascinating journey through the world of sparkling wines, exchanging stories, personal anecdotes, and some surprisingly informative insights on wine tasting.

First up, we blind-tasted six different sparkling wines, each of us rating them out of 25. Our conversation turned hilariously chaotic as we shared tales of our past boozy exploits. We grappled with the sweet versus dry wine debate, causing our scores to veer wildly from wine to wine.

Our scores and opinions diverged, igniting a spirited debate about the merits of each wine. Which sparkling wine will be the highest ranked? So join us as we raise several glasses of effervescent goodness, and who knows? You might even discover a new favorite bubbly. Cheers!

The sparkling wines we tasted:
Chardone Brut
Easton Wine Project Sparkling Wine
Korbel Extra Dry
Lamarca Prosecco
Scandi Frizzante
Verdi Spumante

Intro and Introductions

Matt

Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one. We have liftoff. Welcome to Matt and Friends Drink the Universe. Welcome back to Matt and Friends Drink the Universe. Today we are going to do Rocket RANK EYES. That's one small sip for man, one giant taste for maniac Rocket EYES.

Andy

I feel like way too much effort went into that.

Siobhan

Sweet Jesus.

Emma

Yes, I'm here for it.

Siobhan

I think Rob and Matt are definitely the definition of all the effort on you.

Matt

I mean, we try. I'm going to say it again. I said it last episode, but the high note at the end was all me. Rob didn't think I could do it. Oh, that was good.

Andy

And I did it once.

Matt

I did it thrice and Rob was ready to fall off his chair. So he was like you cannot do that again and I was like let's go All right. I couldn't do it now on demand no.

Siobhan

No, absolutely no see. Oh, you tried, that's okay, you know as an ass-flat miner.

Matt

He's what that one was.

Siobhan

Okay.

Matt

Let's all go around the table here and introduce ourselves, and we're going to go this way. Hi, my name's.

Andy

Andy.

Emma

I'm Emma, here for you. I'm.

Siobhan

Siobhan.

Matt

So today we're going to be doing rocket rankings and initially Siobhan and I talked and I was on vacation and I said what should we do for rocket rankings? And Siobhan said, yeah, like champagne and sparkling. And then, as we went through, we realized that champagne is expensive and nobody bought any. So what we're doing? Rocket ranklings, rocket. Who? Rocket ranklings, Rocket?

Siobhan

ranklings.

Matt

Sparkling wine. Indeed, we have six different sparkling wines here lined up and, for any of you familiar with the show, you know how me and pronouncing things go, so I'm going to let Siobhan pronounce the six different kinds of sparkling wine that we have yeah, I will.

Siobhan

So we have a chandelon brute. We have a corbel brute, I believe I don't know if it's a brute. We'll see A scandali risante which is cool sounding La Marca Prosecco, easton Wine Project hardest one to pronounce and Verdi it's a 1752 Easton Wine Project it is. I think that's part of their name. I don't know, maybe We'll see.

Matt

I don't think it was made in 1752. I hope not, Because we're we see you guys later.

Siobhan

It was nice knowing you and we're drinking the corbel is actually extra dry oh extra dry, it's great. Yes, okay, good to know. So once again, jen has assisted us I just tell you, mine is cheap as shit.

Emma

That's it. Mine was not Mine was not.

Matt

Is it cheaper than the $6 bottle of Verdi? I threw in there for fun, maybe. Probably not, I don't think so.

Siobhan

I'm too old for this.

Matt

Let's see what well we talked about it. I almost brought champagne.

Siobhan

I really did. And then I was like I love these people, Do I love these people? Do I love them?

Matt

that amount of money, Listen and full disclosure.

Siobhan

my dog just had knee surgery, and so I was like listen Until I get that reimbursement we done, buying the sparkling wine.

Matt

I'm glad he's okay.

Siobhan

He's more than okay.

Matt

He's okay after knee surgery, if it was Chris, you probably just would have put him down, oh yeah, I definitely would have bought the Vove.

Siobhan

if it was Chris having surgery. I'd be like I need this.

Matt

There, you go.

Emma

Yup and Shyvana are keeping it classy with our lovely flutes. Yes, they have flutes.

Siobhan

Yeah, because we need. Yeah, we need the fun classy time.

Matt

We can do that too, matt ready, we can. Yeah, that sounds nothing the same.

Emma

I hope that picked up on me too.

Siobhan

You better do that.

Matt

Those were the Matt and Friends Drinking Universe. Yeti's there colliding.

Siobhan

Which I normally enjoy, but for a sparkling wine, oh, we need to go classy.

Matt

Yes, hashtag not sponsored. Okay, so the girls are going classy today.

Siobhan

Hashtag want to be spawn.

Matt

Yeah, well.

Siobhan

I have said it several times Yeti call me. Call me please. Hashtag, please spawn.

The Tasting Begins

Matt

I'm back to yellow color. So once again Jen helped us out by de-identifying our champagne and sticking them in bags, so we really don't know overall what they are. She also did that thing where she wrapped some aluminum foil around the top again, so Love that.

Emma

I love these bags.

Matt

Everybody please be aware that one of those caused Rob to spill bourbon all about his pants when we did this with bourbon.

Emma

So just be really careful on those pores.

Matt

Okay, all right, why don't we get started with number one? And what we're going to do is we're going to blindly taste each sparkling wine and then we're going to rate them out of 25. At the end of the first round, we're going to add up all of those scores and see who guessed what brand each was, or maybe we'll do it as a group. We'll see what's going on when we get there For the second round. What we're going to do is we'll take the top three. We're going to taste two and three against each other and then we'll taste which one scored the highest out of two and three against the top overall.

Andy

That is a hefty porpoise. Yeah, tasting, that's okay, sorry friends.

Siobhan

I'll give you fewer but, I like it so apparently.

Emma

I'm not driving, I will say already.

Andy

It is like a nice rosy. But you are, it's got a nice color. It looks good in the Yeti Cup here.

Siobhan

Well, kids, we got two rosy options today, and number one is one of them.

Matt

So there we are. There's rose in there, for sure.

Emma

Smells nice, oh I like this it smells delicious, mmm, I think it's going in Delicious I like it.

Matt

I like it. Champagne yeah, I don't need it. I think this is the Riz.

Emma

It might be, and I'm not going to lie, I think this is the one I brought, which I actually got at Brewery Run and I was just trying to make it a one shop all and so when I was there I was like y'all got champagne or something bubbly, and they were like we got these four options.

Matt

There you go.

Emma

One of these were it, I was like I'll do it.

Matt

I also think it is the Rosante.

Siobhan

I think you're probably correct, guys, full disclosure. This is a story that no one will care about, except for me and maybe Chris, if he's listening. But we watch Love Island UK on the regular because we're big reality show fans. And Chris is going to say I'm not. And I'm going to say you are, because he puts it on.

Matt

If you watch it on a regular basis, I'm definitely.

Emma

Whatever his wife watches.

Siobhan

We're like a 50 50 on that, like there's definitely some shows that he is not into, but last night in there for anyone that doesn't know what the show is it's a bunch of 20 somethings who are single that go on to like an island in, like you know, mallorca in Spain and have to pair up with each other.

Ratings and Tasting of Sparkling Wine

Siobhan

And one of them was like do you know what carpet DMM means? And he's like, oh yeah, seize the day. And she's like, yeah, that's like great, but I don't know what language that is and I had to leave the room, just so you know. Yep, yeah, andy, you got to leave the room. Yep, feel the same? Yep, hey, that's how it goes. Oh, come on now.

Matt

Wow.

Siobhan

Uh-huh, so just saying yeah.

Matt

Jen and I used to watch the Bachelorette when we were first together.

Siobhan

She's very much in the Bachelor.

Matt

Bachelorette, yeah, and I think the last season I saw was Ali season.

Siobhan

Oh, that's a while ago.

Andy

Yeah, it's been a minute.

Emma

I'm here for it. I love all of those.

Andy

I used to watch Road Rules in the real world. Love that, do you watch?

Siobhan

the challenge. You should watch the challenge. It's awesome actually, and that's another one that Chris and I watch, and actually we watched that when we started dating, like 18 years ago, literally, and that is awesome now because it's badass, oh. Like the challenges because, like Road Rules, real world challenges. Back in the day they were like drink six margaritas and then try to drive a car and you're like this isn't right.

Siobhan

Now they're like hey, by the way, you have to be strapped to this big giant thing and also jump from like truck to truck also, then drive a car after.

Andy

Seems like a good idea.

Siobhan

Yeah, so it's pretty cool actually. I will recommend that to you because it's very cool, anyway, wine.

Matt

I'll give this one an 18 to start off.

Emma

I don't know, I think it's higher for me, maybe 22. Oh 22. It's delicious. It's like babbley and fruitful and flavoring.

Matt

Now I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Siobhan and Emma probably drink a lot more sparkling wine than Andy and I do.

Emma

Yes.

Matt

Truth.

Andy

Okay.

Emma

Yeah.

Andy

So I felt like this would bring a good balance to the episode here. He's like I'm generally I'm a bourbon guy, I'm a beer guy.

Siobhan

Right.

Andy

I like wine.

Siobhan

It's fine, you like reds, though I like whites as well.

Emma

Oh, you do.

Siobhan

Interesting, oh, that's great to know, yeah.

Emma

That's cool.

Siobhan

You got a very diverse palette.

Andy

I don't generally like the really sweet stuff, fair, you know I'm not real picky with it, but it's all right, do you?

Siobhan

have a rating on this one.

Andy

If we're going out of 25, 25 being like mind blowing right.

Matt

Ooh, maybe away.

Andy

Yeah.

Emma

As he goes for another drink.

Siobhan

He's tested it. It's so sweet.

Andy

I think I'm going with the 18. I agree with the 18.

Siobhan

Okay, I might go with a 15. That's not a dig, yeah, it is, just because 15 is pretty good out of 25.

Emma

I agree that's more than half.

Siobhan

Not bad. It is a bit sweet for me, but it is good.

Andy

It is sweet.

Emma

Yes, it's definitely sweet.

Siobhan

It also doesn't have as much bubble which it doesn't yeah which I have, which?

Emma

some people enjoy and some people don't, which I like. More carbonation, me too. Yeah, girl, I got you, you know you would, as in our CO2. That's right, bring it on. Yes, I know yes.

Matt Once Ended up on Stage with a Famous Rapper

Matt

So since we mentioned MTV when we pour the second one, I'll tell a really funny MTV story that involves me and is relatively unbelievable but true.

Siobhan

I wonder. I don't know this story. I don't think you might. You might want to start telling it, okay.

Matt

It actually involves the same trip I talked about in episode one when I climbed the pyramid. It was actually a day after the pyramid that.

Siobhan

Really this occurred, oh cool.

Matt

All right All right Number two. Number two Number one that's dedication. That's dedication there.

Andy

Outstanding. Yeah, good job, she just threw black. Yeah, I'm not going to do that like half a fluto champagne there.

Emma

I was like damn, siobhan just did it all. I'm going to take another.

Matt

It's worth noting that the Matt and Friends Drink the Universe spaceship does have some sofas for people to sit off the episodes of any of these.

Andy

I think she's going to need one, and we got more of a.

Matt

Definitely a very different color.

Siobhan

That's not your son. Don't try and steal my flu. No, I noticed that you're pouring a little less this go around because I felt bad last time. All right, I appreciate you for less for Emma, for the record.

Matt

So, as you're pouring, I'll tell this silly story.

Andy

So, if this is just like I was on TV during the Times Square. Bullshit once like no, no.

Matt

So I was in a nightclub in Cancun on spring break and it was the day after I climbed the pyramid, so it's probably still intoxicated from the day before and then working on another one and the way the club was set up. There was a big stage up in front. So I'm drinking a tequila sunrise. I'm standing on the stage. All of a sudden the lights go up and some rappers walk out and I'm not really paying attention to what's going on because I've been drinking for four days.

Siobhan

Wait, is this a fat Joe story? Yes, okay, I've heard this story.

Matt

Yes, and all of a sudden I hear over the loudspeaker Joe Gordo, and I look to my left and there is fat Joe and Joe Gordo is. You know, no way light blue velour suit, probably 30 feet to my left, sing in, lean back, lean back.

Matt

Okay and somebody that I went to school with a few weeks later said to me hey, were you in Cancun? And I said I was. And they said were you at the fat Joe concert? And I said I was. They said, yeah, mtv spring break got you on stage. Yeah, I didn't mean to. It was just like here's $30 all you can drink to get into this club, because that's what it was. And Three hours later, there the concert starts and apparently MTV got a good shot of me on stage with Joe so yes, pretty good story.

Siobhan

Yeah okay, why number two? It is not red not my favorite.

Emma

It is a white kind of love it.

Siobhan

It's boring though.

Andy

It's very bubbly love that flavor wise, especially after something. Yeah, flavor forward is the last one.

Siobhan

Yeah, can't decide what it is though.

Andy

I think it's the core bell. Just kind of tastes like seltzer to me. I think it's the core birdie.

Siobhan

I. The only reason I'm not going with that it's the Verdi is because I'm not offended by it. I assume that I will be offended.

Matt

Salt of sweetness when we get there. And just for the record, I bought that one at a beer distributor, not a liquor store. That one came from Tanzos beverage, so shout out to Tanzos, they're pretty great, I was there yesterday. As was.

Siobhan

I. I'll be honest, though, if I'm taking this in isolation, I do enjoy this because I tend to like a drier sparkling wine not that I don't want to taste anything. Like I'm okay with it because I like something that's just like chill, you know, like it's spritzy, it's good, it's not trying to do too much.

Matt

This is in my glass and somebody's like let's toast to the new mister and Mrs.

Siobhan

You know what's in there. I was gonna say this is the cheap shit.

Andy

I would like do it up like a party exactly the same like let's just ask this is the kind of stuff that I would mix with something.

Siobhan

This would make a nice momosa. Yes, yeah, yeah, cuz all you're adding is fizz.

Emma

Really right, yeah, you're right with an orange, you're enough. This might be amazing.

Andy

Yeah, a little bit of Dory.

Siobhan

Oh, and he loves my daughter.

Andy

I love my Dory. I haven't had it for the longest time, but I used to love that is such a throwback.

Matt

I'm gonna say this is core ball and I'm gonna give it corbel yeah, corbel, and I'm gonna give the core bell EL a. So I like drier champagne, I like drier wine. Overall, I'm gonna give this a 20 because I'm actually really enjoying it. Wow.

Emma

So now, do you, like you know, a wine with your steak?

Andy

because if it's, like that was away from the mic. Yeah, that was pretty good that was good.

Emma

If it's like you know sometimes, if it's like super dry tastes amazing with your steak, you know telling you about your steak to wine ratio if I was having a steak, it would be a Cabernet Savignon or a Keanti red. I really like it no.

Siobhan

Doing it wrong. I don't.

Matt

I don't like liver at all if somebody shows up at drinkable with a slice of liver I'll throw you out.

Siobhan

I Know I have members of my family. That's where that liver and onions are the greatest thing for the record, if anyone finds liver at a gas station, please leave.

Emma

Yeah.

Siobhan

It was we just done. Did the urban legend like yeah, I'm like.

Emma

Oh, I grew up the family that we're like. You know we used to pig feet and all kinds of stuff and I can't.

Siobhan

The person that doesn't do avocado isn't really going for pig feet. Yeah, just so you know that and I are in kindred spirits on that.

Wine Tasting and Rankings

Matt

Yeah, we are, but power to you for eat. I've seen pickled pigs feet, but I. Wanted. I gotta ask when you eat that? I think this is like suck on it like a lollipop, or do you just like?

Emma

oh, you just get it down.

Matt

Okay.

Siobhan

All right, I've never I've seen people eat chicken.

Andy

Okay, yep hard pass on that one.

Matt

Yeah, many hard passes.

Siobhan

Yeah, all right, we're hard passing so, but I'm not hard Passing on this one, because I actually really do like it.

Emma

I like it better than the first one. We are so different not by a lot.

Siobhan

That's okay. That's listen.

Andy

I love different people, that's all right, different strokes for different.

Emma

Tell me, you're on my side.

Siobhan

I do. I do want a little more out of this, though, so I don't know that I'm gonna give it a 20, but maybe I'll do the 18 that others were doing in the last okay episode, or the last episode, the last round, oh damn.

Andy

What are we committing to friends? Cuz I'm keeping score seven, seven, seven. So much me down for a 10 there. That makes the math any at us. Thank you, yeah, I mean it's, it's fine. It just on its own it doesn't do anything for you Fair enough.

Emma

Yeah, I agree, on its own it doesn't do anything, and I think that's what dry wine is for me. Like it. Just if it's on its own it doesn't do anything with me. But if I have a great dry wine with an amazing Juicy red, fair and I bloody steak.

Siobhan

Oh my god fair enough with wine parents. Oh yeah, cuz that's good I think you need to go steaks. Yeah.

Andy

All right, I'm ready for number three.

Siobhan

This is got like that classic champagne color.

Andy

That's a lot of bubbles though. Oh, I love the bubbly like this looks very wedding toast ready here.

Siobhan

Yes, yes.

Matt

I'm gonna call it without even tasting it.

Siobhan

I think that's the Verdi oh it doesn't smell that sweet, though I smell that sorry.

Matt

All right, maybe it's not.

Siobhan

Right, and we were just waiting for Verdi to suck and it maybe it doesn't.

Matt

I was gonna say, if I called Verdi the Corbalt corbell.

Siobhan

So funny. I you know what Full disclosure. I questioned the blindness while we were kind of doing all this meaning like I was like why do I? I care what it is like do, do, do, do, do, do. Yeah, I feel like it's actually really adding to the experience that I don't know what it is Agreed, especially the border.

Matt

Which is interesting. So I'm gonna ask a question here which one was the other? Like strawberry sweet one. Which, which one was the other?

Siobhan

Well, the Easton wine project is a rosé.

Matt

It's a rosé, but it's not necessarily sweet.

Andy

This is definitely not that no.

Emma

Clear so and the Was also pink.

Siobhan

Yeah, and I'm pretty sure we might be correct, with the first one being that.

Emma

I'm not gonna like, as this is even drier like.

Siobhan

I have more flavor out of this one.

Andy

This actually kind of reminds me of some of the apple ciders we've had.

Matt

I think it actually might be the birdie. I think my initial instinct was correct.

Emma

But it doesn't smell sweet. No, it doesn't. So this isn't all messed up.

Siobhan

All messed up.

Andy

So remember that's.

Siobhan

Somebody put that on a smallie test.

Emma

Test.

Matt

That sounds like highly painful. So there are two, remember, there are two birdie. There's the strawberry sparkle, teeny or whatever it is, and then there's the regular. This is the regular, not the strawberry, that's yeah, we know, because it's not strawberry colored or there's a it's raspberry. Is it right?

Siobhan

Disgusting.

Matt

To woofies in Indiana PA for making that your six dollar end of the night.

Siobhan

Champagne $2 or something better have been two dollars yeah no for a whole bottle, they just. Well, now I'm on board.

Matt

Oh no, it was definitely the end of the night. They were like celebrate getting your drinking diploma.

Siobhan

Here's a bottle of raspberry, yeah drinking diploma, did I go there once?

Matt

I probably subjected you to that at least once.

Siobhan

Yeah, I think so, because we visited Indiana like three times, I think, indiana.

Emma

Yeah.

Matt

There's there's a certain story about a parking meter that originated there.

Siobhan

I was not there for the parking meter.

Matt

I'll tell that one in a later episode.

Siobhan

I was there for the. Chris did like a seven hour keg stand with PBR Wow.

Emma

Oh, yeah, that was impressive seven hours, but it was long.

Siobhan

He would have he would have kept going to, and they were like we're gonna cut you off.

Matt

Yeah, like.

Siobhan

Chris was a champ he could drink.

Matt

Yeah somebody else start this one with the rankings in the thinking well, I like this more than the.

Andy

What would I do?

Siobhan

Oh, these are painting shorts.

Andy

Oh, I did not dress nice for the podcast, so my shorts are literally covered in paint spots.

Siobhan

Short.

Matt

Oh.

Siobhan

We said happy little droplets and I'm out. Oh, Anyway, Andy please continue with your wine. What you got to say.

Andy

So I do like this more than number two what I do so.

Siobhan

I, that's funny that you don't. I don't know. Interesting, but not a lot.

Emma

I'll give it a 13, Okay and I'm gonna drop down to a five on this one. Wow, girl, I know.

Matt

I'm actually with oh, she's not not even finishing it.

Emma

I can't, I can't with Emma.

Matt

I'm the other way on this one. I like the other one, so the last one I gave 20, 20. I'm going down to 15 on this one. This one was.

Siobhan

I didn't mind this.

Matt

It's got it for me. I feel like toothpaste at the end. I don't know. I don't know. It's really weird. Okay, after finished thing going on after finish thing.

Siobhan

All right, well, I'm gonna. I'm gonna go down one point and give myself crappy math. I do later math math. You say I do what we talking about Matt math equals MC. Hammer. We talking about numbers, are we? We've got to talk about them later when I can't figure them out?

Matt

Rob did classify my voice at the end there's drunk fozzie bear, so walk a walk, a walk.

Siobhan

All right. No Number four okay, this smells terrible.

Andy

It really does this is.

Siobhan

I'm not gonna lie you guys, this might be the Verdi and we screwed up last round. This smells terrible.

Matt

That's got like a rose a thing going for it, but it's not rose a dude.

Siobhan

Yes yeah, this is this is the vodka okay.

Emma

Up and down away. This is a very I will fight somebody is Verdi.

Andy

This has to be, very, though this is awful.

Siobhan

Yes, it has to be the Verdi which we screwed up last round, because I think everything is all weird, so I literally wrote at the top of the score sheet. That three is probably either the chandel or the Prosecco. And now this is definitely this is not okay, taste wise I actually like it.

Emma

So if I like, plug my nose.

Andy

Get the picture ready.

Siobhan

I'm about to put a five For myself, and you know that like dude.

Matt

What is it like? Taste is like 70% smell or something. Oh, she von just killed it.

Siobhan

No, I just had two steps. I hate it. Why am I doing?

Matt

that.

Siobhan

Cosmic Chug Me. I already got rid of it.

Matt

I'll do it if that is what I brought on there.

Siobhan

Yeah, you should.

Andy

I, so I don't think I can give it a zero, but it's getting a one.

Siobhan

Yeah, fair.

Andy

That's getting a one from me I gave it a five, which is generous.

Siobhan

Only after taste no, it's so bad for it's like someone took.

Andy

My, your dedication to try to make this work.

Siobhan

I'm trying to make the other one work. The taste is normal. This is amazing.

Matt

I'm gonna say that this barely edges out the option of sobriety over drinking this, and that's why it got a four like.

Siobhan

Yeah, that's real bad.

Andy

I would rather take a trip back to your non-alcoholic episode then drink that, oh, okay.

Siobhan

That's fair, because some of that stuff was not great, but it wasn't too bad. No, do you have a score? It's a 12 for me, because I'm here for.

Matt

So if you don't taste it, it's really good.

Andy

It's great if you have a COVID diagnosis going.

Siobhan

You cannot smell or taste anything, laughing at that.

Matt

Yeah, no, so there's actually a video of me when I had COVID and and thankfully, and some people had a rough time with it Thank God I had it really lightly, but I lost my sense of smell and taste and Jen and I went out to the fridge. We're literally tasting things that we would have net like horseradish, things that we would not have loved to do that. Oh, it's hysterical, I know that I don't want to.

Siobhan

And then silver lining, some of that. No no but I people had horrible times.

Matt

I firmly believe in finding this over lighting in shitty situations. So one of the things that I did amen my friend Aaron, who was on the podcast before you know, Aaron too, Him and I've gone out drinking many times together, and I was like, man, I got COVID.

Matt

This really sucks. I was missing marching band rehearsals that I was supposed to be at at the time. I was really upset, and I was like, hey, I got a really cool party trick, though, and I picked up a bottle of tequila and took a video of me literally doing like a Three second, four second chug. I couldn't taste it, and it was the weirdest thing, because just in my belly I just felt this warm sensation, and then, like 10 minutes later, I was like, oh crap you just have like three shots, four shots.

Siobhan

Basically, I was done, I just laid down on the couch and watched football.

Matt

I was like, yep, all right, we're not moving for a couple hours, because that was a lot of.

Andy

Feel like you're gonna have to put a like sound clip of a doctor saying this is not a good idea.

Matt

Yeah, please listen to the disclaimer at the beginning of the episode. Don't do that.

Andy

Matt and friends go to meetings.

Siobhan

I had COVID twice and I never lost my sense of smell or taste.

Matt

Oh, I totally did and it took a long time. It took like six weeks to come back. It was a long time before I got it all the way back.

Emma

My brother-in-law also lost his like sense of smell and taste and he was like, literally pouring hot sauce on everything.

Tasting and Discussing Different Wines

Andy

Yeah, I mean, all right, that just sounds good.

Siobhan

I think you could do that in real life if you want.

Matt

But.

Siobhan

I have to say, did we all score that?

Emma

Yeah, we did yeah in german I loved it with my nose shut.

Siobhan

Cinco. Five oh my god, I can't okay.

Andy

Japanese.

Siobhan

I believe it's go go Going number five, not Rose and I think in no.

Emma

I think in chinese or korean it's chi great Ichi ni saw she love that guy?

Andy

No, that's japanese.

Emma

That's okay, that's fine, I'm one of those.

Matt

That's all right, you tried, emma. I told star for trying, told star for trying my husband, be proud, my asian beautiful husband. In latin it's me oh yeah.

Emma

Hooray.

Matt

I was waiting for what sexy husband is in latin, as mo was. It is senator working up latin Damn it, you guys. Now I think everything's verity and in english, senator is someone who doesn't get anything done, so this smell.

Emma

What are you guys like in america?

Siobhan

I can't.

Andy

I usually think of with sparkling.

Siobhan

Like that. Do you want this? I'll be honest, I don't love the smell. I think this might be the prosecco.

Andy

I, I agree.

Siobhan

I think this is a little. I think this is kind of the prosecco, because it's that sweet but dry-ish.

Emma

Yeah.

Siobhan

And it's like a nice like light.

Emma

This is my go-to guys. What was I going to say?

Matt

I think it is also. I agree.

Emma

Pist kind of color. Pist color, Pist color. Wait whoa.

Siobhan

That's some hydrated pee. Yes, it is, that's good.

Emma

You know, with some nice bubbles coming up from the bottom.

Matt

Does that count? Sure for hydration. There you go, Come on.

Siobhan

Oh, science, science.

Andy

Hydration makes your pee Different colors.

Matt

It does you guys, there we go.

Emma

Hydration is important, shout out to you I did not do Rob Just because Rob is very good.

Siobhan

Some of the rest of us know what science is too.

Matt

Rob, rob Nye, the science guy we're going to.

Siobhan

Rob, rob, rob, rob, Rob, rob. I agree, I did that on the last one with Bill Nye.

Matt

You did, you did All right.

Siobhan

I enjoy this. Yes, I enjoy this. I'm going to give.

Emma

Color, smell, taste. I agree, this is like the kind you would have at a wedding or party.

Siobhan

I really think this is the prosecco.

Emma

New years. You would just be like cheers.

Siobhan

Cheers. Everybody be OK with it, absolutely, I'm giving this a 20 because I'm enjoying it.

Emma

You know what? Me too, girl Put one yeah.

Matt

At the risk of Siobhan bludgeoning me. I believe this is the prosecco, but it's not doing it for me. I'm going to give it like a 14.

Siobhan

So rude it's OK. A 14 is pretty good still.

Matt

Yeah, I mean, it's not. I'm not saying awful, but I'm not saying no that's fair.

Emma

It does have a very dry, I know, but I love that. Do you like taste that?

Matt

on your teeth. I like it, like that little dryness. It is dry. If I had a choice, between that number one.

Andy

I personally would go with number one, so I'm going to give this a 16.

Emma

OK, yes, because I think that one would be. I'm happy with it. Bring it Number one was good, the risk I like number one a little bit better.

Siobhan

So interesting my gastatio. You know what? Can I change my score?

Andy

Sure, you can do whatever you want. You're in charge of the math, siobhan.

Siobhan

You're right, I am. So I'm just going to give myself a shmillion, not, and I'm going to preempt by saying I do think this is the Prosecco, but I'm not changing my score because of that.

Matt

OK.

Siobhan

But I like this a lot.

Matt

I might I might.

Siobhan

I might undo like 22. All right, I might undo 22. That's all right.

Matt

The classical studies major and the psychology major are going to do math after this. This is going to go really well, Guys humanities, math.

Siobhan

We're going to do real good.

Matt

Oh yeah.

Emma

We just need a sociology person and we're going to be F, like that's all right, absolutely, that is exactly me. That's why I married a nation Like oh, that's so smart.

Siobhan

You know what, though? Oh my god Law. No, I did not marry an Asian, but Chris is very good at math. He is.

Matt

He is extremely good at math, all right.

Siobhan

We ready for number six.

Matt

Let's hit it. So did we miss a Rose? Because I feel like I did not.

Siobhan

No, I bet you this is the first one, the first one and the last one. Look at us end capping.

Matt

Oh, look at that and my color blindness. That is slightly pink.

Andy

Matt can't tell. Would you look at that?

Emma

So I have to say that.

Siobhan

I agree, because that's already, I think this is what you brought. I agree.

Andy

Yeah, I think number one was the Easton Wine Project.

Siobhan

I agree, I think it was too.

Emma

OK, so this is a light rosier this is red Sweet it has some sizzling bubbles coming up to the top, some bubbles around the edge.

Andy

It's not as bubbly as I would want from a sparkling.

Emma

It smells delicious. Siobhan, I think you like it. It is.

Siobhan

But your face is sweet.

Matt

Siobhan's face.

Siobhan

F and A cotton. This is like I just ate a candy.

Matt

Siobhan's face was someone has passed guess.

Andy

This tastes, and we've been driving a while, do you? Remember those little strawberry hard candies. Exactly, I literally just envisioned that in my head the grandma.

Emma

No, I don't hate it either.

Siobhan

Which I will say was quite a lovely end. Cap yes, maybe Jen did that.

Stories of Our Grandmothers

Matt

But let's give Jen some credit, right.

Siobhan

Yeah, maybe she planned it that way. Ok, girl. Like she done, picked the one, but I do think that that means really number one was.

Andy

I think number one was the Easton Wine Project.

Siobhan

Yeah, and I really think that this is number six Interesting.

Emma

So I have to say, no matter what, this is like sweet and delicious and so sweet and, as somebody that loves a good, like sweet, is it sweet you?

Matt

didn't say sweet enough.

Siobhan

Is it what I could drink? The amount that I pour to my glass is how much of this?

Matt

You can drink.

Siobhan

I can manage. So there's that.

Emma

I miss those little hard candies I used to get so excited.

Siobhan

Those are really good though, yeah.

Matt

Oh, it's Graham's.

Andy

It's Graham's hard candy right.

Matt

It was the ever refilling bowl of strawberry hard candy that no one knows where it either had that or the Worthers originals.

Siobhan

Which is so different? I am here for the Worthers originals and they have those cute little things that they say on it.

Emma

So like, love you and like.

Matt

Since I mentioned Graham, well, also, I'm going to tell a little anecdote about my lovely grandmother, who was all of like four foot nine.

Emma

And four foot nine.

Matt

Four foot nine and a quarter. She was very proud of that quarter and I'm like that too. Yeah, and she, she didn't drink. She was card carrying Methodist most of her life and would not drink. And when I graduated college, it was the first time that we were sitting around and we were all having some like champagne.

Matt

And she looked at me and my dad and was like I want a glass of champagne and everybody in the room just stopped and looked at her and was like you want a glass of champagne. She was like, yeah, and we had a bottle of Corbel.

Emma

I love that Look at that so nice. So we do family Friday dinners, and every Friday night G-ma is always like bring on the gin.

Matt

Yes, I love it, my grandmother.

Siobhan

Well telling grandma stories, Chris's favorite story about my grandmother, who is a lot. This is my mom's mom right. Who is? She had red hair. We are similar humans in a few ways.

Emma

Do you have red hair? Very distinct in other ways but amazing how they find women like us. Oh yeah, love it. I say that all the time.

Siobhan

Like it's the best.

Matt

So we just tripped and fall head first.

Siobhan

She was like 83 or something and she lived in Florida and we went to visit her and she just went to her fridge and brought out a Budweiser Regular Budweiser, not a Bud Light. She's 83.

Matt

But OK.

Siobhan

And she just ripped open a 16 ounce can of a Budweiser and poured it in the glass and was like Chris, nice to meet you. And Chris was like this is amazing.

Andy

All right.

Siobhan

Yeah, it was amazing.

Andy

There you go. My grandma called beer monkey piss.

Siobhan

Oh no, which she's not wrong, depending on what she was talking about.

Andy

So they owned the farm through the Depression and apparently the farmhands wanted to still drink their beer, but they weren't allowed to do it with Grammy around. So the farmhands apparently would go behind the barn and drink the beer behind the barn and then to hide it above the milking area there was, like this crawl space. They would just chuck the bottles there. And the reason we know this is because after Graham Papp died and we're cleaning out the farm, we found all these Depression era beer bottles.

Siobhan

So wow, that's really cool, very cool, awesome, that's amazing, all right.

Andy

Unlike this wine Yikes.

Scores and Recap of Round 1

Siobhan

All right so we have Emma's Emma. I've written this very five she is all in 25, baby.

Emma

I love this. I then gave it a 12.

Matt

She's in for it. I gave it a 12.

Siobhan

I'm sorry, I gave it a 12.

Matt

I'm giving it a 12. Anybody?

Emma

I'm giving it an eight. I hope it's that we are on this An eight. And he's going eight. An eight.

Siobhan

It is quite sweet.

Matt

It's too sweet for me, However not offensive he did give one a one, you guys Right over there, so they're fairly enough. So I will say about this Siobhan and Emma might be a little upset, but my mouth tastes drier after drinking this. I don't really feel refreshed.

Siobhan

I'm going with the eight. I don't even know, I think eight is accurate.

Matt

I'm with the eight. I'm going to be on the eight.

Emma

Really, I taste sweet after. I'm like give me more.

Andy

I don't think I would choose sobriety over this.

Matt

Is that the gauge we're going with? Oh damn, it's definitely the gauge.

Siobhan

Oh wow, I gave this a lot. Then I don't know, I'm like drink up, give me more.

Matt

Yeah, I mean that tends to be the gauge for some of the things we drink around here. So sobriety or this.

Siobhan

Yeah, all right. What's the next step?

Matt

All right, the next step is you, and I do math.

Siobhan

Math E equals MC Hammer.

Emma

We talking about numbers Okay.

Siobhan

Hello, we went through. I did the math, you did the math, we helped we.

Matt

No we nothing. It was a group effort A calculator A calculator did the math, that's true, but you told me numbers, the humanity style calculator.

Siobhan

The calculator did the math.

Emma

Yeah.

Siobhan

Okay. So what we're doing here, people, is we are talking through the scores that we did and then also the guesses in the brands, but I think we all sort of aligned in what our guesses were in the brands we did. It's not like there were a bunch of dissenters on brand names, so we're just gonna go through and see. We had a guess for number one that it was either cause guys, full disclosure.

Siobhan

It's a disagreement Two rosés right, two pinky looking things. So we thought originally that it was the scandali rosante, but I don't know, because once we got to the end we done made a quick old switcheroo.

Andy

Switcheroo.

Siobhan

So many of us meaning me, cause I'm talking right now think that the Easton Wine Project is number one.

Emma

I'm still saying it's the rosés.

Siobhan

Big reveal, big reveal.

Emma

Get it down this way it is.

Siobhan

The Easton Wine Project. Wow, that is the winner.

Andy

Drink local friends. That's right, fair enough, shout out to the Easton Wine Project.

Matt

Yeah, it was good. It was a delicious time. Yep, one of.

Siobhan

Emma's highest scores, I have to say high. That was the highest overall score.

Emma

It was the highest overall. Yes, I loved it.

Matt

Yep 73 out of 100 was the score on that one Grabbing number two there.

Siobhan

Okay, so wait. Number two in the rankings was number five. We thought number five was the Prosecco.

Andy

Right, lamarca Prosecco, and it is.

Emma

Oh the Corbell, corbell, corbell.

Siobhan

Look at that Number five. Number five.

Matt

So that's number five.

Siobhan

So that was the second place winner.

Matt

See, that's my go-to. When somebody says, bring a bottle of champagne, that's the one I grab.

Siobhan

What Well done, All right. Number three was number two.

Matt

There's three was number two.

Siobhan

We're doing a lot of things here, so we thought If you're drinking along with us.

Matt

I'm really sorry.

Siobhan

We thought number two was Corbell, so who?

Matt

the hell knows it is, it is, it is.

Siobhan

That's the Prosecco.

Andy

All right, we were correct, so we had those switched.

Emma

No, we weren't, we had them switched around.

Siobhan

Okay, number four was number three. Let's go ahead and switch that around.

Emma

This is the one I gave the lowest score. Number three Right, am I crazy? It is Maybe I'm Shandong, shandong, shandong.

Siobhan

Because I don't know what's happening, but anyway.

Emma

Shandong was number what Crunchy? Number three yes.

Siobhan

Because I really like Shandong wine. It is a Napa Valley California wine, but it is French made, but it is female run.

Emma

Oh yeah, so the head winemaker Kind of girl power.

Siobhan

Is a wonderful woman. And just quick story. I went on a cruise over New Year's two years ago and I did a wine tasting and it was all female run wineries that we tasted, which was wonderful. It was like decoy Shandong, like a couple of other ones and I then the rest of the cruise was like Shandong is all I want for sparkling wine, like it was just wonderful clean lovely. So yeah, pauline, okay, what are we doing?

Matt

What we got, so we should be on number five. I think Wasn't that number four? Yeah, which?

Siobhan

the. I screwed something up, so it's fine, just go to number six. What was number six?

Matt

All right, so we're going backwards.

Siobhan

We thought number six was that Rizzante.

Matt

And number six is it is.

Siobhan

Oh, mine it is, so we were right.

Matt

It is the Rizzante, okay, so that means number four has to be.

Siobhan

Yeah, absolutely, it's got to be the Verdi. It's got to be the Verdi.

Matt

Is that the lowest number?

Siobhan

Yeah, and it's the only one left.

Andy

Yeah, pull the string. Oh, there you go.

Siobhan

There you go, Lowest one yeah lowest one.

Emma

Not gonna lie, I would never get this.

Siobhan

Yeah, it was real bad. That was everyone's lowest score.

Matt

Yeah, that was bad, you gave it a one, I gave it a four.

Siobhan

Oh, maybe not everyone's. It was not Emma's lowest score, no, all right, so our top three are oh, great question, andy. Sounds like the top three are Easton Wine Project, which is let's talk about the wines, yeah, what do we got? We got Easton Wine Project, american. What does it say? American Rose? Okay, so number one, easton Wine Project, american Rose. And then number two was the Corbel. That makes me laugh. And we were only one point off on that to be fair, not bad. I give that a lot.

Siobhan

And then number three is the Prosecco.

Matt

Let's do two and three and then we'll taste the winner of this against one and we'll see how that goes.

Emma

So what's interesting is that we all feel like the local was better. Do you think it's because it's fresh or do you really feel like it's because? Is that?

Matt

Delaware River water that we're on.

Siobhan

I think part of it is because it's rosé. So I feel like we're kind of feeling.

Andy

I'm not like judging stuff on like how champagny is this champagny, yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm judging on like what I like and Okay, so this is the Corbel.

Matt

This is the Corbel. All right, let's hit the Corbel first, we'll taste the second one, and then we'll rank them against each other here.

Siobhan

Oh, they're so different, you guys.

Matt

They are. They're very different things.

Siobhan

Really, I still love the Prosecco man.

Matt

And it's not just because, but this was one of the major struggles, like the initial concept for this episode was we'll do rocket rankings wine. Then, all of a sudden there was this eye-opening moment where it was like we can't do that because wine is just such a diverse spectrum.

Emma

Oh, gosh, wine is so hard.

Siobhan

Yeah, yeah, you must need to stick to like you got your reds.

Andy

White red, you got your whites.

Siobhan

You got. Reds, whites, you got, sparkling, you got sports books.

Andy

There's three different kinds of sports books.

Siobhan

Oh yo, yeah, that's all there is. Yeah, okay, right, not blush, not anything else. No, there's not, not sweet red.

Matt

Concord? There's not.

Siobhan

Concord your cabinet.

Matt

There's, not your.

Siobhan

Listen, are we getting really good dude? All right, so we're ranking these two here.

Matt

Okay, so we do want to do some numbers with this as well. We do want to do some Frick, really yeah.

Andy

I think putting them next to each other go on sip for sip here. I like the Prosecco better, but it's not a lot.

Siobhan

You gotta give it a score, though I give the Prosecco. That's the second one I'm giving the.

Andy

Prosecco an 18. All right, and I'm giving the Corbel a 16.

Siobhan

Ooh, look at that, the very close score. But I put the Prosecco just a. I will say I am quite impressed with how satisfied I am by the Corbel.

Matt

All right.

Siobhan

I would not have pegged that If I had found that in a store, because I don't know that I treat Corbel as seriously as maybe I should depending on now that I'm having this tasting.

Emma

All right.

Siobhan

Cause that chandelion was more than this Corbel, and even though I like that chandelion a lot, I can understand why we maybe rated this better. All that to be said, I will thank you. We did already cover that. I was told to not talk as much.

Matt

I never said that to you, never.

Siobhan

No, no, no. I'm saying I was told that in school and you were not shocked. Is what we covered?

Round 2 Scores and Recap

Matt

Oh yeah, that yes.

Siobhan

So I'm going to give this Prosecco a 20.

Matt

All right.

Siobhan

And I'm going to give this Corbel a 16.

Matt

All right.

Siobhan

Meg, you knew the math this time.

Matt

I can Emma. I wish that was Emma.

Andy

I know it's not, it's Andy yeah but my God, it's all the bubbles, man.

Siobhan

Yeah, it is a lot of bubbles.

Emma

I'm not going to like. I really like the second one and I'm going to go 19, 15.

Siobhan

19 for the Prosecco.

Matt

Yes, 15 for the other, let's get her.

Siobhan

She didn't even give that a good score the last time.

Round 3 and Declaring the Highest Ranked

Emma

Wow. Okay, it's all relative, it's all different when they're compared. Yes, I just I'm really loving the bubbles compared.

Siobhan

Yeah, the Prosecco is definitely bubblier which I appreciate.

Emma

Yeah, yeah.

Siobhan

So that's why Andy's burping so much.

Matt

Apparently I need to be me for this one. So the core bell I like more than the Prosecco, and that makes me the only one I gave that one a 20 and I gave the Prosecco a 15.

Siobhan

Okay, do the math.

Andy

Please hold math loading.

Matt

All right, people. Here's the final verdict of numbers two and three against each other. We have the core bell at a 67. We have the Prosecco drum roll.

Siobhan

Do we need drum roll? Yes, 72.

Matt

Oh wow 67 to 72,.

Siobhan

That's pretty good.

Matt

Yes, the drum roll sound effects are because your husband gave me crap about being a drummer and not having a drum roll sound effect.

Siobhan

That's very fair. I stand by that for him.

Andy

It was a thing that happened. You stand by that. For him, eastern versus Prosecco.

Matt

Indeed. So let's go ahead and we'll do number two first. We're going to taste the Prosecco first, and we're going to hit Eastern Wine after that. So let's see there's the Prosecco I still love it.

Emma

Tastes, just like it did a couple minutes ago, a second ago Exactly like it did 20 seconds before. I love the bubbly. That's like left on your tongue.

Siobhan

I'm telling you guys, this is my go-to. It's also not that expensive, which is kind of the best.

Matt

Eastern Wine. Eastern Wine, it's so different y'all.

Siobhan

It's like and by y'all I mean everyone I don't know, I mean it feels like it shouldn't be in the same cup, right? I know Well, none of them are in pain, but. Lamarca makes a sparkling rosé, and I will say, having had that one, even though we're not drinking it in real time. This Eastern Wine project has a lot more flavor to it than that sparkling rosé Absolutely.

Emma

I like it a lot. That doesn't. I'm not allying to it, I'm just saying no, I am aligning to it because it has all the flavor I want in Creed. It is really good.

Matt

Yeah, it's good. I still like the Prosecco though.

Siobhan

So good, ooh, okay, wait, now that I'm reading about this, eastern Wine project wine it all makes sense it says a sparkling rosé wine blend of Niagara, catawba and Concorde grapes. There's a lot of Concorde.

Matt

There's the Concorde flavor, yeah.

Siobhan

It's almost like it named it for me, because I was like, oh, this is really grape-y. This trio comes together in perfect harmony for a balanced mouthfeel highlighted by a classic fizz.

Matt

I'll dispute the balanced mouthfeel as the Concorde grape is on the front of that train.

Siobhan

It is a lot of Concorde which I absolutely really enjoy, which I absolutely really enjoy.

Andy

I'm going to say I will buy this again.

Siobhan

You should. I want to get it some now. I'm glad that we made you well made you, didn't make you Inspired.

Emma

Yes.

Siobhan

I'm glad that we inspired you to get a sparkling wine which maybe you wouldn't have gotten.

Andy

Definitely not.

Emma

Yeah, definitely not Generally speaking, we are buying dry at the Eastern Wine project. At the Eastern Wine project that is located at the.

Siobhan

Silk Mill.

Andy

Yeah, we went right. I went right to it. Right, but yeah.

Siobhan

So I feel like I'm in two very different seasons here, right? This wine, right, the Prosecco I would drink anytime. But also it makes me think of summer. It's very light, it's very effervescent, but this Eastern Wine project, sparkling wine, makes me think like late summer heading into fall. Yeah, ready for a Concorde grape, it's got body. Yes, ready for a body adi, ready for, like, a little more substance. They're two wonderful wines.

Emma

I will say I feel like it almost starts to go into. The wine Started off, Matt.

Matt

Head to head because we have two very different things here and we're trying to pick a winner against the two. The Prosecco was very, very good, but head to head here I'm giving it a 16 and the Eastern Wine project I'm giving it a 23 because I think it is that close. It didn't put me over the top, that's not close at all when I'd say perfect.

Siobhan

Okay.

Matt

But I think a 23 is good. I like the flavor. It is much more complex, in my opinion, than the Prosecco was, where the Prosecco just gave me a white grape and a little bit of.

Siobhan

That's what it is bizz.

Matt

Yeah, there wasn't. I can't even pick out what it was, but now that we've talked about it, I can tell you the Catabua and the Concorde.

Siobhan

I can taste Big words. Can you spell that, matt? I can taste. No, it's on the back of the label.

Matt

Well, I can't see the label from here Okay. Well, so, but I can definitely taste those. I think the flavor in the Eastern Wine project is much more complex, so I'm going to go with that one at a 23.

Andy

I think the first time around, I put the Eastern Wine project at a 18. I'm sticking with that.

Siobhan

Okay.

Andy

But I think I'm also sticking with the 16 for the Prosecco. Oh, it's given itself a good score. I will say though, if you put the amount of fizz in the Prosecco in the Eastern, oh yeah, good feedback, that puts me up to 25.

Matt

Yeah, that would be phenomenal. Yeah, a little more fizz, I agree, I agree.

Siobhan

I think there's a bunch of people on this podcast previously that have not enjoyed a fizz no. Chris is the same.

Emma

Chris is very similar.

Siobhan

He's like oh, it's too much carbonation. I'm like you're drinking a carbonated beverage.

Emma

Right, that's what you're here for, what you want, and Siobhan and I love a good like CO2 sparkling.

Siobhan

Yeah, I love a CO2. And so we appreciate people that love a bubbly.

Emma

Yes, so thank you, yes, come over to the dark side, thank you.

Siobhan

Thank you for the feedback on that.

Matt

Thank you, darth Rarich, we appreciate that.

Siobhan

What's your?

Emma

score Emma.

Andy

Going around.

Emma

I'm not going to lie, I still love the Easton, it's just it's so good, it's got so much body. I need numbers.

Siobhan

Give me some numbers, numbers, numbers, numbers, numbers.

Emma

Numbers, numbers. Numbers Numbers, numbers, numbers, numbers, numbers, numbers, numbers, numbers, numbers, numbers, numbers, numbers. I am kind of confused.

Siobhan

It's just I. I am kind of confused.

Matt

It's just, it's just, it's just it's just what I meant to say.

Siobhan

So that's it, thank you, and I'm going to give the Easton a 20. Alright, and then I'm about to give this Prosecco like a 23. Really, yeah, they're both really good they are, they're so close. They are, they're so close, but they're so different.

Emma

They are. So part of me is like that at least speaks to their like good effort. Like you know, new Year's anniversary Like this is.

Siobhan

I will choose with either yeah, yeah, I feel like I would love to like, just sit with this sparkling rosé, just like a fire pit situation.

Matt

All right, are we ready? Yeah, all right. I got a different drum roll.

Andy

That is the.

Matt

We have the Prosecco at 72 and the Easton Wine Project at 83.

Siobhan

Oh.

Matt

So for the.

Siobhan

Easton Wine Project.

Matt

Representing.

Siobhan

Yeah.

Matt

FTDubs Easton Wine Project. This is for you, stellar.

Andy

Still a little bit. I'll tell her to sit to that, all right.

Emma

Cheers. But I really am curious Because it's local so it's just so fresh.

Andy

Maybe classically with wine. It's the aging right Like, yeah, the older the better, that's the classic.

Siobhan

I'll also be honest, like Easton and this area and Matt can back up on this because he's at a wine class- True, like PA is all about like this sweeter kind of whitey, blushy, kind of like Kataba stuff, Cause like we're in a good place for that flavor.

Matt

Yes.

Siobhan

And so I think Easton probably does really well because, like this state is set up to, like really support this.

Matt

So yes, yes and no, I agree and disagree with you because we're set up really well for wine in general, where we can do a variety of flavors, and the reason for it is our clay soil here in Pennsylvania, which we have an interesting mix. It's either solid rock or clay and the clay soil with the water deep down. When those grapefruit, when those grape leaves go down that far, 20, 30 feet to be able to suck up the water through that clay, you get wonderful clean water and therefore we have very similar soil to what they have in the wine regions of France.

Siobhan

Right, so we get. It's a latitude thing to you guys.

Outro and Boozy Quote

Matt

Yes, we get phenomenal wine which here in Pennsylvania were a bit undersold, because we really can compete with Napa Valley and we can compete with France flat out. Yeah, and I think this Easton wine project sparkling here is a great example of how literally at outclassed everything else we had here.

Siobhan

Yeah, really cool it was wonderful.

Matt

The body was there.

Siobhan

It had a sweet flavor.

Matt

If somebody was to serve that as a wedding or reception or any kind of toast I was at, I'd be happy. So, stirlers, we get another one.

Siobhan

We get two of them. I did look it up.

Andy

According to their website, Easton Wine Project gets their grapes from Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York.

Matt

It's a wonderful wine region around here.

Siobhan

Absolutely, and I love that we paired the kind of final countdown with a not American wine, because LaMarca is truly from Italy and it's from the Veneto region.

Matt

And it was fantastic. And with that, I believe it's time to wrap up. So thank you all again for joining us today and listening as my friends and I drink the universe. Hope you'll join us again soon. Bye.

Emma

LaMarca Yay Cheers.

Matt

The boozy quote for this episode comes from Lily Olajay. Lily said I only drink champagne when I'm happy and when I'm sad. Sometimes I drink it when I'm alone. When I have company, I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it when I'm not hungry and I drink it when I am. Otherwise, I never touch it, unless I'm thirsty.
